HIM Computer Lab

The Health Information Management Computer Lab is equipped with state-of-the art equipment. It has Gateway and Dell computers, a regular laser printer, a color laser printer, CD burners and a scanner. The computers for student use are equipped with many software packages. Each computer uses the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Additionally, students may use Microsoft Visio 2007 and Microsoft Project 2007 on any computer in the lab.

Some of the other applications most frequently used include software with the following capabilities: cancer abstraction, code assignment, reimbursement and DRG calculation, birth certificate preparation, web site composition, layout design and numbering and filing systems. There is also software available on the subjects of the different types of master patient indexes and chart locator systems used in health care facilities.

We are pleased to announce that our computer lab has acquired the American Health Information Management Association's e-HIM® Virtual Laboratory, which provides educators and students with virtual access to a full array of health information management technologies. The Virtual Lab will allow students to work with the software they will encounter in the workplace, in a safe environment that closely simulates real world application of those technologies.
