Health Information Management PPE/Management Internship Requirements

A report of sound health prior to professional practice experience and internship assignments is a requirement of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as stated in the Standards and Guidelines for an Accredited Educational Program for the Health Information Administrator. The requirements listed below are those that are deemed necessary to meet requirements of the AHIMA as well as the individual professional practice experience sites:

  1. Annual physical examination by a physician of the student's choice.
  2. Negative PPD (A T-spot test is required when the results are positive).
  3. Proof of immunity against rubella (MMR vaccination record (2 shots) is required).
  4. Proof of immunity against rubeola (MMR vaccination record (2 shots) is required).
  5. Evidence of a tetanus shot within 10 years.
  6. Varicella Titer
  7. Flu shot

Evidence of completion of all above requirements is due prior to the first day of professional practice experience and/or management internship.  Students failing to complete these requirements will not be allowed into the hospital setting. There will be no exceptions to this requirement.  

Individual professional practice experience and/or management internship sites may have additional legal or medical requirements for students assigned to those hospitals. This information will be provided to the students by the professional practice experience/internship coordinators.

Health Services Administration Capstone Internship Requirements

The facilities used for Internship Experience are not responsible for any medical costs incurred by the student while enrolled in the Internship Experience course. While these facilities may provide emergency health care services to the student, the cost of these services are the responsibility of the student.

Neither the Health Services Administration Program nor the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in general is responsible for health expenses incurred by the students while on internship or during the Internship experience courses.

CastleBranch is a screening and compliance tracking solutions company that provides screening products and services.  CastleBranch assists  with organizing paperwork, screening procedures, such as drug screen and background checks. The paper work that is required for you to begin your internship will be housed on the CastleBranch website. The facilities used for Internship Experiences and Professional Practice Experiences are not responsible for any medical costs incurred by the student while enrolled in the Internship and PPE courses. Neither the Allied Health Department nor the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in general is responsible for health expenses incurred by the students while on PPE or internship experiences.
